The Ohio Public Employees Retirement System Board of Trustees last week certified seven candidates to run for three open seats on the Board this year.
We’re mailing ballots this week, and eligible voting members will have until Oct. 4 to return their completed ballots to VRES, a third-party administrator conducting the election. The votes will be delivered Oct. 7 to the OPERS building and verified under the supervision of the Ohio Secretary of State.
Members and retirees can vote only for the candidates who represent them. Instructions for voting will be contained in information being mailed to retirees and members who are eligible to vote in this election. Voting is available either online, by telephone or by returning the paper ballot.
(If you choose to vote online, please make sure you enter the correct website address in your browser’s address bar, and not in the browser’s search bar.)
The candidate list includes seven people running for three seats: county employee representative, miscellaneous employee representative and retiree representative.
Here’s the list of the candidates:
- For county employee representative, Jonnetta Johnson-Bell and Sean Loftus
- For miscellaneous employee representative, Elizabeth Rumple and Cinthia Sledz
- For retiree representative, Charlie Adkins, John Maurer and Steve Toth
The VRES website contains biographies of the candidates readable by those receiving ballots.
The OPERS Board of Trustees includes 11 positions. One is filled by the director of the Ohio Department of Administrative Services. Three are appointed investment experts, two are elected retiree representatives, and the others are elected active-member representatives.
The Board meets monthly, and members are not compensated. However, Board members may be reimbursed for actual and necessary expenses related to their service.
OPERS does not endorse any candidates or their positions.
