Essential information on refunds

Sept. 15, 2017 — OPERS offers members who terminate public employment an opportunity to receive a refund of the contributions they made while they were members. A new OPERS Essentials video explains how this refund process works.

    If you are receiving opers disability can you withdraw your retirement lump sum without affecting your disability payments?

      Ms. Sparks,

      Under OPERS’ disability rules, you cannot take a lump sum payment without the consequence of terminating your disability.

    Once a refund application is submitted what is the typical time frame to receive your funds?

      There is a 2-month waiting period from your last day of employment as certified by the employer to process and pay your refund. If after, standard processing and issuance is typically 15-20 business days from the date all requirements are received. Thank you, OPERS
