How to use your OPERS ID
This unique identifier is a secure substitute for your Social Security number
By Michael Pramik, Ohio Public Employees Retirement System
March 23, 2023 – The OPERS ID is an 11-digit personalized identification method that will remain with you throughout your entire OPERS membership.

You can use the OPERS ID in place of your Social Security number in many instances, such as verifying your identity over the phone and submitting forms. If you’ve received a recent mailing from us, you’ll find the OPERS ID at the top-right corner of the first page. You’ll also see it when you log in to your online account.
We highly encourage all members and retirees to write down their OPERS ID and store it in a safe place for future use. One reason is that the number is required if you get locked out of your online account and you’re trying to recover your username or password.
If you’re locked out of your account and don’t have your OPERS ID, contact our Member Services department at 800-222-7377.
Also, don’t forget about the many ways you can use your OPERS online account. This account is great for viewing and updating personal information, such as your address and phone number, and for contacting us through the online message center. You also can see and print a breakdown of your monthly benefit and personalized tax forms and documents via the online account.
If you haven’t set up your online account, it’s easy to do so. Just go to the OPERS home page, click on “Account Login,” and follow the prompts. You will need your OPERS ID to set up this account, as well as your Social Security number.

The OPERS representative was extremely helpful & patient in assisting me when I had trouble in logging into my OPERS account and creating a new password which frequently was unacceptable because it didn’t meet the strength criteria? Thank you for your time with me.
It says to log onto a link to see if you need any further documentation but when I click I get this very confused

I do not know what my OPERS number is. I have had the job for 15years and was never provided this information. How do I find out what the number is?
