Make use of your OPERS ID
This unique identifier is a secure substitute for your Social Security number
By Michael Pramik, Ohio Public Employees Retirement System
Aug. 22, 2024 – The OPERS ID is an 11-digit personalized identification number that will remain with you throughout your entire OPERS membership and can help increase the security of your personal information.
You can use the OPERS ID in place of your Social Security number in many instances, such as registering for your online account, verifying your identity over the phone and submitting forms. If you’ve received a recent mailing from us, you’ll find the OPERS ID at the top-right corner of the first page. You’ll also see it when you log in to your online account.
We highly encourage all members and retirees to write down their OPERS ID and store it in a safe place for future use. One reason is that the number is required if you get locked out of your online account and you’re trying to recover your username or password.
If you’re locked out of your account and don’t have your OPERS ID, contact our Member Services department at 800-222-7377. Remember that OPERS will never call you and ask you to provide any of your personal information, including your OPERS ID. If someone calls you and asks you for your ID, please hang up and give us a call.
Also, don’t forget about the many ways you can use your OPERS online account. This account is great for viewing and updating personal information, such as your address and phone number, and for contacting us through the online message center. You also can see and print a breakdown of your monthly benefit and personalized tax forms and documents via the online account.
If you haven’t set up your online account, it’s easy to do so. Just go to the OPERS home page, click on “Account Login,” and follow the prompts. You will need your OPERS ID to set up this account, as well as your Social Security number.

I do not, at this time, have a piece of mailing and am trying to find my OPERS ID, can you help?
Thank you,
Lisa,
Contact our Member Services department at 800-222-7377.
i tried to call today and it says there is a large volume of calls to call later and disconnects me. I call later and it does the same exact thing.
Marina,
We are experiencing a high volume of calls this time of year, due in large part to people asking about their tax forms. Please try to call midweek, early in the day.
It is very discouraging to try to get into your account, reset your password and have to use your Opers ID # if you do not readily have a letter available with the number on it. You are doing the members a dis-service. We are entering our ssn and our date of birth. Perhaps you could use an address or something else we have great knowledge of at the time we trying to access our account.
I am trying to figure out my OPERS id number. I have call the number multiple times. And it keeps saying extreme high call volumes and hangs up on me.
Colton,
Try calling early in the morning, midweek, when our lines aren’t so busy. Later in the day, when we already have committed to making the maximum amount of callbacks that we can in that day, that service is no longer available.
