Make use of your OPERS ID

This unique identifier is a secure substitute for your Social Security number

Aug. 22, 2024 – The OPERS ID is an 11-digit personalized identification number that will remain with you throughout your entire OPERS membership and can help increase the security of your personal information.

You can use the OPERS ID in place of your Social Security number in many instances, such as registering for your online account, verifying your identity over the phone and submitting forms. If you’ve received a recent mailing from us, you’ll find the OPERS ID at the top-right corner of the first page. You’ll also see it when you log in to your online account.

We highly encourage all members and retirees to write down their OPERS ID and store it in a safe place for future use. One reason is that the number is required if you get locked out of your online account and you’re trying to recover your username or password.

If you’re locked out of your account and don’t have your OPERS ID, contact our Member Services department at 800-222-7377. Remember that OPERS will never call you and ask you to provide any of your personal information, including your OPERS ID. If someone calls you and asks you for your ID, please hang up and give us a call.

Also, don’t forget about the many ways you can use your OPERS online account. This account is great for viewing and updating personal information, such as your address and phone number, and for contacting us through the online message center. You also can see and print a breakdown of your monthly benefit and personalized tax forms and documents via the online account.

If you haven’t set up your online account, it’s easy to do so. Just go to the OPERS home page, click on “Account Login,” and follow the prompts. You will need your OPERS ID to set up this account, as well as your Social Security number.
