Vision/dental enrollment winding down

Last day to sign up or make changes for 2023 is Dec. 15

By Michael Pramik, Ohio Public Employees Retirement System

Dec. 7, 2022 – OPERS reminds retirees that in addition to medical coverage, open enrollment is your opportunity to enroll in, cancel or change OPERS vision and/or dental coverage for yourself and any eligible dependents for 2023.

The window to sign up for dental and vision coverage ends on Dec. 15. Use the form within your open enrollment packet for this coverage. Enrollment in these plans is for the entire calendar year and cannot be changed until next year’s open enrollment. You also can call OPERS through Dec. 15 to change your plan level or cancel coverage.

  • Not making changes to your OPERS vision and dental coverage? No problem. Your enrollment will automatically continue in 2023.
  • If you’re enrolled in a vision and/or dental plan with both OPERS and Via Benefits (or another third-party provider), take some time to review your coverage needs to determine if both plans are needed.
  • If you have specific questions about how much the plans pay for certain services, please call the vision/ dental plan vendors directly. OPERS is changing its vision coverage provider next year to MetLife, which also provides dental coverage.

You can learn more at the OPERS Open Enrollment 2023 website. The information contained there includes the 2023 OPERS Vision and Dental Plan Guide.

If I’m happy with my insurance I have through the OPERS connector is there anything else I need to do? And if I read things right , and I have eye and dental insurance and do nothing you’ll put it all under met life.
Need to know if im right with things thank you

Maria, we encourage that members review their coverage but if you elect not to make any changes no action is required. Thank you, OPERS

Hi, I am retiring at the end of 2022. I have signed up for healthcare through Via Benefits. I am now trying to get dential and vision. How can I do it? Do I still get dential and vision through the State or do I need to go through Via Benefits? If so how do I do it? It says my daughter and son are not eligable, but if I take them off will it cause problems with the health care plan I already signed them up with. Of is the profiles under the health care shop different than the dential and vision. I am just unsure and could use some assistance.

      Craig,

You do not have to go through Via Benefits for dental or vision insurance. Please call us at 800-222-7377 for additional assistance.

Can I get replacement cards (vision/dental) for myself and my husband? I either have misplaced them or didn’t receive them.

      Marcia,

You’ll need to contact MetLife for replacement cards, either online at MetLife.org/OPERS, or by calling MetLife at 1-888-262-4874.

First time at bat.. seems my eye Dr. will not process their services through MetLife OPERS.
Their office seemed to use the term I read to them off the card: “Vison Benefit”, as a red flag which brought the comment, “we do not accept”. I’ll let you know how this ends. I may need to shop away from MetLife OPERS.
