Explaining the essentials

New video series details key retirement system concepts

By Michael Pramik, Ohio Public Employees Retirement System

Aug. 24, 2017 — OPERS is introducing a video series to help our members understand the basics of how their pension system works.

OPERS Essentials is a series of short, informative videos that explain the way we operate. It  includes topics that we’re frequently questioned about.

In cooperation with the Education and Member Services departments, members of the OPERS Communications team have created the video series.

We kick off the series today with a video describing how final average salary is used to help determine members’ pension benefits.

We’ll post the first six videos over the next six weeks, then update the series as new videos are produced. Upcoming topics include refunds, payment plans, meeting with a counselor, combining service credit and the difference between unreduced and reduced benefits.

The videos will be available for viewing on the OPERS YouTube channel.
