OneExchange is now Via Benefits

Medicare Connector services stay the same during name change transition

By Heather Drago, Ohio Public Employees Retirement System

March 1, 2018 — Towers Watson’s OneExchange, the service Medicare-eligible plan participants use to select and enroll into health insurance coverage and manage Health Reimbursement Arrangement reimbursements, has changed its name to Via Benefits.  The new name reflects the evolving benefits landscape that we have come to know. Via Benefits will continue to offer the same year-round service you experience today, from answering questions about new coverage and providing support in choosing the right plan for your needs to helping with online account set up, understanding Explanation of Benefits forms and more.

You’ll see the change in both OneExchange and OPERS materials. We appreciate your patience during this transition as some materials may take longer to update than others.

If you or a family member have enrolled in a plan through the OPERS Medicare Connector, be sure to keep an eye out and open any Via Benefits materials or emails that come your way.

Why the change of One Exchange’s name? I can tell you from my own experience with my mother, changes in names of companies down the road cause a lot of confusion. And my instance, information was not transferred as it should have been, hence a total nightmare. Why did they change their name? Did someone buy them out?

OneExchange changed their name to Via Benefits to better reflect their customer service offerings. Their focus is to continue to assist retirees like you with finding affordable health care plans. If you have further questions regarding the name change, please contact Via Benefits at 1-844-287-9945. Thank you!

Apologies for the oversight, I assume you are referring to your HRA (Health Reimbursement Arrangement)?.
To provide some backstory, between 2016 and 2018, the monthly allowance amount was decreased annually until the final allowance amount was reached in 2018. The three year transition to reduce funding is complete.

At this point, the Board has not discussed anything further about making major changes to funding. Your 2019 HRA monthly allowance amount will be communicated in your open enrollment materials this fall.

The service has been good but I don’t think a name change is a good idea when serving the elderly. It will likely add to the confusion of dealing with various entities, subcontractors, forms, etc. My wish is that the whole process would be very much simplified. You’ll better understand in a few years. Thanks, though.

This change seems to have brought about a huge delay in the processing of reimbursement claims. Delays started January 1, 2018, with processing now at triple the amount of time before that date. This was blamed on “a backlog.” It seems that a “backlog” could be cleared up in two months. I am now awaiting reimbursement that was filed one month ago. This is not service and is not acceptable.

      Rose,

I encourage you to attend our “Transitioning to the Connector” seminar, either in person or online, presented by the OPERS Education team. Created for the pre-Medicare plan participant, this seminar helps those near Medicare eligibility prepare for their transition to an individual Medicare plan through the OPERS Medicare Connector. Registration must be completed through your OPERS online account or by calling OPERS at 1-800-222-7377. If you’re not able to attend in-person, you can log in to a live Transitioning to the Connector online webinar session or watch a video or recorded presentation. Visit the Educational Opportunities for Retirees section at opers.org for webinar topics, videos and recorded presentations.

If you have questions, please call us at 1-800-222-7377 and a member of our staff would be happy to guide you through the process.

I agree with many comments in regard to the name change and how the reimbursements work. Older people do not like ‘change’ for the sake of change. It is difficult to have to apply for reimbursement every year. Seems there could be an easier way for older adults.

      Sandra,
There are a few notable changes occurring for OPERS Medicare retirees, effective Jan. 1, 2022.

The base HRA allowance amount is changing from $450 to $350 per month. Monthly HRA deposit amounts will range from 51 percent ($178.50) to 90 percent ($315) of the base allowance amount.

In addition to a change in the base allowance amount, retirees could see a change in their allowance percentage effective Jan. 1, 2022.
If you had less than 20 years of qualified health care service credit at retirement you will have your allowance percentage reduced from the current percentage to 51 percent. If you had 20 or more years of qualified health care service credit at retirement your allowance percentage could change. If, based on your years of service credit and age at retirement, your allowance percentage is 75 percent or less but you were grandfathered at a higher percent in 2015, your allowance percentage will be reduced to your actual position on the allowance table (between 51 percent and 74 percent).

If you have additional questions about the changes please contact our Member Services Center at 1-800-222-7377.
      Thanks, MS
