Dental, vision plans auto-reimbursed in 2021

Retirees won’t need to submit premium receipts for their coverage

By Michael Pramik, Ohio Public Employees Retirement System

Oct. 29, 2020 – OPERS would like to remind Medicare retirees of an enhancement to our health care coverage for 2021.

Next year, premiums for the OPERS vision and dental plans will be automatically reimbursed monthly from your Health Reimbursement Arrangement account with no additional forms for you to complete or receipts to provide. This is a convenience that retirees have requested, and we’re happy to offer it for the first time next year.

If you don’t wish to have these premiums automatically reimbursed monthly from your HRA account, you can opt out by using the form within your open enrollment packet or by calling OPERS.

Because you no longer need a premium receipt to be reimbursed for OPERS dental or vision premiums, we will not send a “Get Ready” letter and a copy of your premium receipt in December as we’ve done for the last several years.

If you need a premium receipt to be reimbursed for OPERS group pre-Medicare premiums for a dependent, you can obtain this receipt through your online account.

Will those of us on social security still have to submit a reoccurring reimbursement form for our Medicare deduction from our monthly SS checks? Thank you.

Have to log in as a guest? Home page login not carried over? But it’s good to see this automatic reimbursement setup. And the request process is improved with the in house operation too I think.

      Gerald,

Please fax that application to: 614-857-1171. If you want to email it, it would have to be encrypted, and you’d have to call us at 800-222-7377 to arrange that.

To enroll after delaying enrollment, you must submit a Health Care Coverage application during an enrollment period: the annual open enrollment period or within 60 days of the involuntary cancellation of your health care coverage by another health care plan. You will need to include proof of credible coverage from your employer or plan administrator with your application, as it confirms the involuntary cancellation.
